Lush 'Cup O' Coffee' Face Mask

Lush is one of my all-time favourite brands; incredible ethics and incredible products, what more can you ask for?  I'm a huge fan of their skincare,  so when I noticed the Cup O' Coffee face mask in store I was rather intrigued.  That's going straight in my basket.

The Claim:

The purpose of this mask is to awaken and cleanse the skin.  So, pretty much what a cup of coffee does for the soul.

The Product:

The texture of this mask is unlike any other I have tried before.  As you can see from the picture below, it is a gloopy, sticky consistency.  As odd as it may feel plunging your finger into this pot of goo, I actually really love the texture.  Due to its tackiness, it binds all the ground coffee pieces together making it easily spreadable.

The Instructions:

Smooth over face and body, leave for 10-15 minutes and rinse with warm water.

The Process:

Smoothing on the mask is super simple - just make sure not to get it near the eyes!  I'd also avoid the hairline as it's a pain to try to remove.  As you can see from the picture, I have given these areas a wide berth.  Past Steph was not so wise.  Learn from my mistakes people.

One of my favourite things bout this mask is that when it sets, it doesn't actually dry down completely.  I'm not a fan of that tight, frozen-face feeling that comes with other purifying masks so this one is a winner!  When washing this off, make sure to soften the mask with warm water first.  Then gently scrub off in circular motions til it's all gone!

The Results:

Honestly, I'm pretty damn impressed.  So impressed actually, that this is my third tub!  It's one of the very few masks that I notice instant results from.    The coffee grounds are perfectly scrubby, the kaolin removes any excess oil and the agave feels nicely moisturising.  My skin is left smooth, cleansed and moisturised.  It's true: this genuinely is like a shot of coffee for the face!

The Recommendation:

  • For you if:
    • You want your skin to look instantly brighter
    • You want a reaaaaal good exfoliator
    • You have normal to oily skin
      • I've read a few reviews from people with dry skin that felt this was a little drying (for reference, I have oily, acne-prone skin)
    • You like the smell of coffee (the scent is rather intense)
    • You don't mind a lil' bit of mess when washing off
    • You don't have sensitive skin
    • You're vegan, yay! (hi5 for being a top human)

Have you tried this Cup O' Coffee face mask?  What's your favourite mask?

Steph, xo

  2. Nice post! I love Lush face masks but I wasn't too sure about this one as I don't like the smell of coffee that much but it sounds amazing and I am going to get it the next time I'm in Lush.

    1. You can actually get a smaller tub than the one I've shown here, so you could maybe try that first! Or even just try a bit of the sample one in store on the back of your hand! x

  4. I absolutely love this mask, especially the smell! The only issue I found with it is that it doesn't last any where near as long as the other masks because it goes off quicker X

    1. It's sooo good, eh?! I actually manage to get through this big tub within the 4 month shelf-life! I do actually use it on my body sometimes too, so that's probably why! There's a smaller tub that's probably a better size if you only use it on your face! x

    1. It can be pretty overwhelming at first! The staff are usually super helpful, so even though I pretty much know their products inside-out, I love chatting to the staff every time I'm in! It's definitely an interesting texture, haha! x

  7. Definitely one of my favourites, I want to try them all though!!! I have pretty odd skin, oily and spot-prone but also dry and sensitive and it's caused me no problems so far. I love the smell too :)

Totally agree on the hairline statement, I've made this mistake more than once and I end up finding it in my hair the next day haha

    1. I buy this instead of the Mask of Magnaminty now! Has a pretty similar effect and doesn't leave you with that weird feeling when it's drying! x

    1. Yeah, I'm not too sure how people with sensitive skin would get on with it. It would maybe be totally fine, but thought it was worth mentioning just in case! Lush have so many face masks that there's probably another 20 that would be good for you, haha! x

  12. I love Lush but I've never actually been very impressed with any of the face masks that I've tried. This one sounds pretty good though, I like that it must exfoliate when you take it off.

  19. I used to use this mask a lot, always used to use it before a shower and wash it off in the shower because it's so messy! As much as I like coffee I didn't really like the smell of this mask and I did find it could be quite drying (dry skin here) albeit it would leave my skin nice and bright. If I bought it again I may just use it on my body but I kept finding that my pot would leak for some reason despite always being upright so that put me off, maybe I got an oozy dud?!
